We always enjoy learning about the history of a community through our cemetery mapping projects. The East Elfers Cemetery in New Port Richey, Florida, was established in 1885 on land donated by two prominent community members, and several founding families from the community are interred here. The cemetery also tells the story of Greek and Eastern European immigration to the area. Oversight and management of the cemetery has changed hands many times over the decades. The current team have started the process of modernizing the records, including a comprehensive ground penetrating radar scan and high-accuracy GPS data collection to develop an up-to-date map of current interments and identifying available space for new burials.
